Carl Number 10

The Caveman welcomes you.

April 21, 2026

I am sure we are connected on LinkedIn, and you may already be aware of the fact that I was once a cop. Just a happy go lucky, uniformed response officer who every day got into a police car and attended as many calls as he could, mostly whilst single crewed and doing a job that he thought was not only the best job in the world, but that he was actually making a difference. By the way, the photo above was when I was sent to London to accept a national Police Bravery award for an incident that happened in 2011. That is me outside Number 10.

Well, who would have thought this job was the background and a testing environment where I’d be turned into an author? I mean, there are loads of books out there, written by professors and doctors, with medical training and expertise in the field, but my little book, The Caveman Principles (first edition), was published back in 2015.

From the day it was launched, it was clear that there was a place for formal advice, technical discovery and boring reads, but my book was getting rave reviews about the simplicity, easy to read and funny anecdotes, making it a smash hit with my readers!

For you, the reader, the book was designed to deliver 3 straightforward, usable sections. The first part was the understanding of stress. You cannot control anything unless you have knowledge of what is happening, and I used The Caveman stories to give real meaning to what stress is, what it does and how people can start to control it.

The second part was my ability to read people. After 19 years of interviewing suspects and witnesses, I had learned a skill that I realised I could teach others. So the Caveman Tribal Sorter was established and written into the pages. If I am honest, this was the most fun I had on the authorship journey.

And finally, the last part of the book is the understanding of change principles. You, me and others all want to change something in our lives. We want to create a better life, but we always fail. Not because of our wavering desire, but our understanding of change and what we need to do to make sure these things stick, and we work through it.

I never thought it would be that good, I really didn’t. But after finding a publisher and having worked through all the expectations, Filament Publishing (London) took my scraggly manuscript, and before I knew it, I had a paper copy of it in my hands.

Now, rush forward 11 years to 2026. My life is incredibly different. I am now a full time Keynote Speaker and trainer, covering Stress, Burnout and Resilience in many of its forms. My book is now on “Edition 2” with a new cover, and my training company is now established, where I provide in person and eLearning training for so many wonderful and exciting clients.

This is great, but what’s next?

What I hope to do with my weekly newsletters (if I get the timings right, it will be every Tuesday), is show you that no matter what the situation, there is always hope, advice and support. Using my book, contents and stories, I plan to enlighten your day with a humorous and easy newsletter read. Bringing some Stone Age perspective to our busy lives.

We all operate Stoneage hardware, whilst running 21st century software. No wonder we keep crashing.

I love finding out what makes others get stressed, and if you are willing to share a line or two, I’d be more than happy to ‘Caveman’ the answer in a future newsletter, using the techniques and learnings I have developed.

If you are in the market for a book on stress, can I interest you in a copy? You can grab a copy directly from my printers. Please click this text and use this link.

Thought for this week;

The sunset looks the same today as it did 40,000 years ago. We get one world to enjoy, so don’t forget to stop and watch it.

Do it Caveman style: no phone, no TV and no distractions. Give yourself 5 minutes to enjoy it.

Parting Question

What decision can you make and one action you can take that will improve the life of just one person in your tribe this week? It would be great to hear what you are planning.

The Caveman Principles is a book that was written to make everyone live a happier, healthier and less stressful life. And for now, this Caveman is venturing into the week unknown, with a speaker booking this Friday at Staffordshire Police HQ, where anything can happen. So until next week, stay safe and please remember to smile, do not take life too seriously.

Your friend,

The Caveman.

P.S. When you are ready, here are a few things that might help you;

1) Book me to attend your next event as a Keynote Speaker.

2) Book yourself onto an eLearning course to help you master a new skill.

3) Or find a time for a Caveman chat on a discovery call
