Too Long; Didn’t Read

May 5, 2026

Being a Caveman is easy. It really is; most of the things that have to be done are important, and the things that are not are either ignored or monitored until they become things that have to be done. Energy and focus are spread too thin and should not be subject to external influences.

Sitting as a Caveman in the modern world (and having a real job), we have lost this simple way of life. We are now trying to do more and achieve more, but with the same brain processing power, and then we get frustrated with the apparent lack of progress. There are many issues we can unpack, but by far the biggest and easiest is to recognise your tribe.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

The introduction of AI has meant people adapting their workdays to maximise output, which has created a population that is barely holding it together. What do I mean by this? The simple fact is that AI is pumping out too much text to justify the means of someone’s random thoughts. As you may have realised, this is not AI – I am sitting here typing every word and then going over it again to correct the missppelling.

The problem, I believe, comes down to the fact that everyone is so busy looking after themselves, doing what THEY think is right (becasue they have access to a new tool), and losing the compassion, the connection with others, and not realising that they are part of a network, a family and a team that all work differently but have to come together to make something greater. You may be surprised to hear that my book covers this very issue and why it creates stress and upset, I call it the Caveman Tribal Sorter.

Coming back to the title TL;DR, these 4 letters pop up far too often, and although they are perfect for someone to grasp, too much text, no one has seemed to think beyond that statement. The use of AI, believing more is better, to create text to assist people in making decisions, trying to make it easier for people to have all the gumph up front, is killing a huge portion of your team. CUT IT OUT. For 2 thousand years, there has been an agreement that there are 4 types of personalities, and AI does not play to any of them (including the Gatherers – see my book).

Should there be one person who can stand up to this overuse of ‘words’ to get a point across, that would be a Hunter (someone just like me, very open and very direct). You see, the Hunter needs you to get to the point and will not be scared to tell someone they could not be bothered to read all the text. If I were a gambling man, I would say that it was a Hunter (probably in the coding business) who even coined the term TL;DR.

WANT TO MAKE AN IMPACT?

STOP trying to make a mountain out of a mole hill. If you want to tell someone they did a good job, just tell them (now I know you are laughing because no one gets a thank you or a job well done message – but as I have gone there… think about this point). But if you need to tell someone to close the windows before they leave work, just ask them, STOP trying to justify it.

Now, if you are a manager and want someone to do something different at work, YOU DO NOT HAVE TO RAM IT INTO A 20 PAGE MESSAGE. The number of emails I have seen, read, and had to digest that contain a whole story of why we got to this point is uncountable! The last place I worked had started using AI, and these generated messages became impossible to open, read, and act on. Being a Hunter, it was the last straw when I had to read numerous emails from management, who all picked up whatever the other was saying and tried to put their own spin on it.

As I am self employed, I am not subject to these messages any more, and I have so much more time to watch YouTube now. On a serious note, I have had to learn my marketing message. I did start with a short and sweet message. Then kept adding to it. Before I knew it, it was a bloated mess, and I realised this very point, on the front end of any potential customers, TLDR. I deleted all the extras and got back to basics; this worked a treat.

Genuine point taken – TL;DR.

TL;DR

  1. There are more than ‘one’ type of person in your tribe
  2. STOP using AI to write emails and messages
  3. DON’T Justify messages when all you need to do is inform
  4. Be nice and send a thank you/well done message
  5. Reassess what you send out, keep it short and simple

Thought of the week

No look back. Only look forward… unless a tiger is behind you. Staying present and taking care of business is the priority. You cannot change the past, but you can influence the future, and that only happens in the present.

Parting Question

There is a trade off between convenience and effort, especially in human innovation. But what are you prepared to lose in that trade, perhaps your own voice to that of AI, or the loss of your own pure thought, or the inability to come up with your own solution? It would be interesting to hear your thoughts in the comments below.

Doing what everyone else is doing does not make everything the right thing to do.

Your friend, The Caveman.

P.S. When you are ready, here are a few things that might help you;

1) You can book me to attend your next event as a Keynote Speaker.

2) Ask me to send you a copy of my Speaker Brochure.

3) Grab a copy of my book, direct from my printing agent.

4) You might want to book yourself onto one of my eLearning courses to help you master a new skill.

5) Or if you have the time, find a time for a Caveman chat (with coffee) on a discovery call.
